Early in my quest for alternative medicine and natural health I found Transcendental Meditation. It was in Depak Chopra’s book “Ageless Body, Timeless Mind “According to Chopra TM came from India, and was originally introduced in the USA by Maharishi Mahesh YogI in the 1970’s. The purpose of TM is to learn to quiet the noise of the world. Its belief is that once quiet you can find the path to the uncompensated you.

Chopra went on to explain that consciousness is only the tip of the iceberg because individuals are much more complex. The depth of that complexity originates in silence and stillness. TM is a practice that uses a mantra to quiet the mind. It is different than praying which is asking for something. It is just silence. There are many approaches to meditation and most of them work to quiet the mind which is a stillness helps bleed off the stress and issues of the day.

I took a TM course and applied it for just those issues. I found that once I became silent, which took a while, it seemed that I was led by an invisible force to a new way of being. From there came books and materials that helped me change my perception and defuse accumulated tension and stress.

Before Chopra became an author he was an oncologist in a Boston hospital where his observations of cancer patients noted that just the diagnosis of cancer would put the patient into a downward spiral, sometimes more destructive than the disease itself. He eventually quit modern medicine and was reborn into his India roots and Ayruvedic medicine, where his success with patients increased ten-fold. I devoured his material, He wrote more than 20 books and audio tapes. He convinced me that the mind-body connection was real and if I could cure my mind, my body would follow suit. He was an early leader in my quest to understand natural health.

All living things in this world are unique in their form and function. A human being is unique because of a reasoning mind and evolved emotion. The exercise of adding thought and feelings make man the most developed living being in nature. In spite of this development humans have a multitude of problems coping dealing with existence. A human is susceptible to harm from:

Genetic experience

Physical attack

Mental attack

Life Experience

Group experience

These components are all part of life. The difference between humans and animals is we remember. We attach the past events to current events and make an analysis based on the history of similar experience. This complicates the process of life leading to imbalance and disease. When overwhelmed humans discard living and move from happiness into a state of fear. People and societies carry this mind set through life spending their time defending their existence under false pretense.

From this inborn mental blemish mankind suffers endlessly. Doctors have sought to repair and improve human life through various means since the outset of civilization. One beneficial form is to rearrange negative thinking and feelings. If one can rearrange the patterns of thinking they can discard negative patterns and allow the mind/body to move disease issues out of human consciousness.

The medical model of Homeopathy claims “cure”of disease imbalance by triggering and rearranging thought patterns so people can cure themselves. The named disease is not the focus of treatment; treatment is aimed at raising awareness of the inner mind to see causes for imbalance. This process is also possible at the group level as has been shown in epidemic disease patterns.

Medical science postulates that more than 80% of disorders originate from mental imbalance. The overwhelmed human mind lives in the past. Finding triggers to diffuse the volatile nature of human nature could lead to a transformation of humanity.

Most things that people fear are created in the mind and do not happen. A rearrangement in mental mindsets could be of immense benefit to mankind. Helping people live in the moment could be an admirable goal for humanity.

Healing Sounds Intensive

July 17 to the 24th 2010 I attended Jonathan Goldman’s Healing Sound Intensive at the Sunrise Ranch. The Sunrise Ranch is pristinely located in a quiet valley in the Rocky Mountain foothills near Loveland, Colorado. The ranch reminded me of days at camp as a child with dormitory rooms, comfortable atmosphere and serene surroundings. The difference was that an almost mystical aura seemed to be present.

The conference was in its 15th year, teaching about the healing power of sound. There were ninety people in attendance including five teachers. The world was well represented by the USA, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Columbia, Argentina, Australia, England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Slovenia, and the Netherlands. When I met Andi Goldman and began to mix with this diversified group of people I looked forward to an exciting and diverse week. I was not disappointed.

In my quest to be my own doc my personal belief in sound as a healing therapy began when I was able to cure ringing in the ear and sinus issues several years before using sound as the only remedy. I found that sound is much more than just music and that the use of your own voice and the vowel sounds can produce a sacred healing message. Sound is the opposite of quiet and both forces are powerful as nature delivers life.

The intensive was anchored with fellowship, laughter, rhythms, sounds, and laughter and quiet times. As the week progressed instruction went from the technical definitions of sound to how to use the sacred vowel sounds uh, oo, oh, ah, eye, aye and ee. Each session was planned to bring better understanding of how to apply sound as a sacred medium of healing. These lessons followed traditions laid out by the ancient societies of Tibet, India, China, and the America’s.

The principle of love was evident as group hugging and tears of happiness welled up as boundaries were expanded. In my experience it was uncommon to show emotion and hugs were always guarded, (especially hugging another guy). By the end of the gathering I was hugging everyone as enthusiastically as anyone else.

If you like fellowship, friendship, affiliation and want to add more meaning to your life attend a sound healing intensive. The world of sound offers a proven avenue to better health and well being. I came away from the experience motivated and confident I could be part of a better world.

I took quite a few pictures and although I am not a good photographer I decided to do a utube slideshow. Take a look.

Discover The Positive and Negative of Automatic Behavior on Your Health

Habits are routines of behavior that tend to occur subconsciously without directly thinking about them consciously. Habits sometimes go unnoticed in the person who exhibits them. Habits are a simple form of learning in reaction to an exposure to a stimulus.

Habits can be Destructive

During my life a lot of habits have come and gone. My early over eating habit resulted in an extra 60 pounds on a 5’3” frame resulting in a short, fat body and issues of confidence in my mental outlook.

Exactly What are Habits?

Habits are automatic behavior responses to mental and physical circumstances. Habits are trained into life, or they may be genetic. Each person has a tendency, inclination and susceptibility to respond in specific ways to surroundings and situations.

Automatic Response

We create habits to survive on automatic without thinking about what we are doing. Historically, being fat paid off with the ability to last through a shortage of food. Plants with psychedelic properties were chewed or smoked to pass the hours in altered states. Throughout history we assumed habits that bring both problems and possibilities to life. The addictive habits of modern times bring short term relief, but over the long term can bring horrible consequences.

Changing Bad Habits

In my attempts to lose weight I tried pharmacy, diet fads and weight loss programs. The products initially worked, but eventually old habits would reappear and the weight crept back on. Finally I kept the weight off with a change of habits. My process was to examine what caused me to crave damaging foods and drinks, and the way I consumed them, I began with slowing down.

Eating to fast and to much

I put my fork down between each bite.

I count chews, minimum of 10

I always take small portions, with close attention to quantity

Wait a few minutes after eating to

decide if I need more

If I See Food:

I eliminate offending food from easy access (Like chips watching TV)

I think about consequences of eating non nourishing food and drink

I think about quantity

Is this food needed, or is it an emotional crutch, or just something to do

What I Eliminated or Reduced

Wheat products, white flour, and raised yeast products (replaced with flat breads and other grains)

Very limited fruit and processed sugars, no artificial sweeteners, no corn syrup products (replaced with Stevia)

Dairy Products, only butter and occasional cheese, (Replaced with limited soy products)

So-called Junk and Highly Processed Foods (very limited with close label inspection. (If urge is there to taste something, I only taste)

Soft Drinks, Never with corn syrup or artificial (diet) sweeteners, (limited consumption of cane sugar and brewed alcoholic beverages)

Changing Habits

I found that to change a habit I had to replace it with a new one. Obviously, each person needs to adjust habits. Your habits are created by you and good or bad is a personal perception. We each have to decide the habits that serve us well, and those that are destructive and act accordingly. Usually forming or breaking habits takes about three weeks.

How We Form Habits

Behavior repeated automatically

Sometimes Uncontrollable

Usually Unintentional

Unaware of urge

Influences That Trigger Habits

Inclination

Traditions

Social Pressure

Emotion

Economy

Reputation

Medical circumstance

25 years ago I made the decision to eliminate medical insurance, medical doctors and pharmacy from my life. The research path took me to ancient philosophy from Hippocrates to Hahnemann to the modern nature cure doctors of the 18th and 19th centuries.

We move from so-called scientific logic, to the world of mystic inspiration in only a breath. To make sense of the life of humans and humanity is complex, but we try!

Praying

The Origin of Belief Systems

Our Unseen Path

It seems to me that the way we believe creates both health and wealth. Without health wealth is of no value. Without wealth, the quality of life suffers. We make a plan for life, and then life makes another plan. Why is that? Could it be that we follow an unseen path that forms the foundation for our relationship with ourselves, family, community and the world? It is incomprehensible why groups of human beings fight and even kill to uphold a collection of beliefs. The foundations of belief and includes the following:

Faith

Conviction

Principles

Inspiration

The Flow of Life

We move from so-called scientific logic, to the world of mystic inspiration in only a breath. To make sense of the life of humans and humanity is complex, but we try!

WHY, Why, why!

Howard Bloom’s The Lucifer Principle theorizes a model where we are a part of a social body in which we are unwitting cells. Can that be true? Is there hidden social mind that manipulates our psychology, and even our physiology? Is that why people act without the slightest sense of what the long term results of an action may be? Is that why are we pre-occupied with sex, devoted to gods, and become the slaves of our leaders? Why do we make suicidal commitments to ideas, religions, and trivial details of cultural style? Why do we become the unconscious followers of invisible spirits?

The Delusion of Reason

Is there a valid reason why in the sea of life is there seemingly endless conflict? The nature of a social body is to dominate its followers, so attempts to be individual are clouded by the ideas and dogma of the social mind. Few seem immune to the many diseases of the mind and body that move through societies. What we believe and feel is anchored deep in the generations of human experience that have occurred in the past. I believe that our experience of the past combined with the present create a harmonic discord that lead to discomfort and disease.

You Are What You Eat!

Tips to Finding Nutrition in a Non-nutrition Based Environment

Nutrition and Health

Many common health problems can be prevented or improved with a quality diet. The efficiency of a person is affected by the food they eat. Society today provides many dietitians and health professionals who specialize in human nutrition. Their training is to provide safe and evidence based information. But as with any other field economics can dictate decisions.

Poor Diet Results

Throughout history a poor diet can be injurious to health with deficiency disease

Scurvy

Beriberi

Kwashiokor

Health Threatening Conditions

Obesity

Metabolic syndrome

Chronic Disease Conditions

Cardiovascular disease

Diabetes

Osteoporosis

Tips for Eating Habits

Fresh, whole (unprocessed) organic foods (when possible)

Whole plants to slow digestion and improves absorption

Eat regular scheduled meals

Make meat a side dish

Eat slow and less

Junk Food USA

It is proven conclusively that one who resides in the United States has a difficult time being fit and healthy. The tendency to be overweight and unhealthy may well be the results of modern food processing.

Excess Sugar, Salt, Fat

Most Americans are trained from birth to overeat and relish the taste of sugar, salt, and fat. Those basic ingredients are processed into the numerous food choices we find in our food markets today resulting in a steady increase in weight and health issues and decline in food nutrition.

Food Processing

Despite attempts by modern agri-business to provide mass market nourishment the obvious failure is evident as we view our fellow American. With the selections of processed foods in our supermarkets we develop poor eating habits and over consume altered food and drink, resulting in becoming overfed and undernourished.

Why?

The purpose of processing enables companies to preserve food and extend the shelf life. Lengthened shelf life allows time to transport over long distance and last for long periods of time. While processing nutrients are lost and then replaced with chemical cocktails of synthetic vitamins, minerals, and fillers to revitalize the lost look and taste of the unprocessed product.

Results!

The resulting modern American diet differs considerably from traditional diets around the world. When the United States diet is exported to other countries their people begin to assume the same body shapes and suffer the same health problems.

Economic Success Story

It is easy to see why this method of food processing gained favor. The American dream of happiness and success created a new picture of life for millions of people and the change in lifestyle habits created the issues we see today. The need for fast food was apparent to food processors in the early 1900’s as the industrial revolution brought jobs that filled the time of people. Today we dash here and there to support the lifestyle we have created.

Where do You Fit?

There is change as a growing percentage of people are finding the benefits of eating less, and adding nutrition in their diet. When I first began my training in nutrition I read these words:

Eat Close to the Earth

The meaning of this was that plants are first users of inorganic materials and transform them to organic food for plant eating creatures. With mass production of meat, sugar, fats and chemicals the wrong products became the centerpiece of meals. You can join the road to healthy eating and drinking by following the Organic movement growing today.

Sunlight

The light produced by the sun is vital to life on earth and it provides energy for nearly all organisms on earth. Green food chains begin with photosynthesis that uses the energy of absorbed sunlight. Then herbivores eat the plants, carnivores eat the herbivores, and the cycle of life moves forward.

Ultraviolet

Colors

Lasers

The oldest form of light therapy is natural sunlight which is the ultimate source of full spectrum light. The first color therapy was used 2,500 years ago by Pythagoras. Color halls were used for restoring balance and healing in ancient Egypt, China, and India.

Splitting the Light

Then Sir Isaac Newton who invented the color wheel which split white light into red, orange, yellow, green, cyan and blue. Newton went a step further and associated the colors with a sound.

Goethe’s Contribution

About a century later Johann Wolfgang Goethe added the psychological effects of color on the human psyche. After that Niels Finson of Denmark discovered light treatment to assist wound healing. In 1932 two California psychologists established the physiological effect in humans. Examples:

Blue light is calming

Red light stimulates

Babbitt and Dinshah

Beginning in 1878 Dr. Edwin Babbitt used light for a variety of ailments with a principle he called Rainbow Healing outlined in his book: Principles of Light and Color in the Material and Spiritual Universe.

Dinshah Ghadiali, PhD, MD was inspired by Babbitt’s work. In 1897 after saving the life of a dying woman with indigo light Dinshah began 23 years of research and clinical observation to verify light therapy as a valid therapeutic tool he named “Spectro Chrome”. His work is published in: “ The Triumph of Spectro-Chrome.” In 1985 Dinshah’s son Darius published, “Let There Be Light” based on his father’s work. The Dinshah Health Society formed in 1975 still exists.

Quack, Maybe Not

In the early 1900’s Dinshah was labeled a quack by the American Medical association. His publications reflected great antagonism toward the medical profession in general as he depicted them as “The Medical Octopus” with tentacles that stretch across the land. He lamented about the privileges extended to medical practice and pharmacy including what he called the “curse” of vaccination.

Antagonism Caused Demise

He ridiculed the very core of 20th century medicine. as he angered doctors with his slogan, “No diagnosis, No drugs, No surgery” Dinshah’s ideas and therapy must have been successful in many cases as the application continues today.

The Spectro-Chrome Instrument

Dinshah’s Spectro-Chrome color therapy includes a box with a 1000 watt light bulb and an opening fitted with five color filters called (Attuned Color Wave Slides). These slides are mixed to produce twelve different colors.

For example:

Green: A pituitary stimulant and germicide

Scarlet: A genital stimulant

Colors as Frequency is Energy Source

Every element according to Dinshah exhibit a frequency of one of the seven prismatic colors and that balancing color eliminates disease. The therapy is simple: to cure a disease administer the colors that are lacking or reduce the colors that have become too brilliant.

The alternative health care model of light provides a low cost opportunity to discover harmony and balance. When you see a colored light that brings a feeling of well-being gaze at it for a time and drink in the color’s vibrations. You are in for a pleasant surprise.

During my life a lot of habits have come and gone. My destructive early over eating habit resulted in an extra 60 pounds on a 5’3” frame resulting in a short, fat body and issues of confidence in my mental outlook.

Where we get habits

Exactly what are habits? Habits are behavior responses to mental and physical circumstances. Habits can be trained into our life, or they may be genetic. Each person has a tendency, inclination and susceptibility to respond in specific ways to surroundings and situations.

Stress Release

We create habits to survive on automatic without thinking about what we are doing. Historically, being fat paid off with the ability to last through a shortage of food. Plants with psychedelic properties were chewed or smoked to pass the hours in altered states. Throughout history we assumed habits that bring both problems and possibilities to life. The habits of modern times bring short term relief, but over the long term can bring horrible consequences.

Addiction

Substance Abuse

Depressants

Stimulants

Hallucinogens

Inhalants

Alcohol & Alcoholism

Nicotine

Caffeine

Compulsive habits

Overeating

Gambling

Dangerous Pursuits

In my attempt to lose weight I tried pharmacy, diet fads and weight loss programs. The products initially worked, but eventually old habits would reappear and the weight crept back on. Finally I kept the weight off with a change of habits. My process was to examine what caused me to crave damaging foods and drinks, and the way I consumed them:

Eating too Fast and too Much

I put my fork down between each bite

I count chews, minimum of 10

I always take small portions, with close attention to quantity

Wait a few minutes after eating to decide if I need more

If I See Food

I eliminate offending food from easy access (Like chips watching TV)

I think about consequences of eating non nourishing food and drink

I think about quantity

Is this food needed, or is it an emotional crutch, or just something to do

What I Eliminated or Reduced (it took a long time)

Wheat products, white flour, and raised yeast products (replaced with flat breads and other grains)

Very limited fruit and processed sugars, no artificial sweeteners, no corn syrup products (replaced with Stevia)

Dairy Products, only butter and occasional cheese, (Replaced with limited soy products)

So-called Junk and Highly Processed Foods (very limited with close label inspection. (If urge is there to taste something, I only taste)

We all develop automatic responses to not have to think. Luckily, we have that ability if and just a moments thinking can adjust our automatic response. Not always easy, but always possible.

Healing with Sound Draws on Ancient Knowledge

Integrated Approach

At no time in our history has there been greater desire, interest and need for alternative forms of health care. Be your own doc experience shows that we are able to draw on science, music, metaphysics, ancient truths, philosophical traditions, and both Eastern and Western drug free medicine to create an integrated and harmonic approach to health care and healing.

Sound and Homeopathy

Homeopathy was created using the principle of similars or, “like may be cured by like”. It was with that principle that I cured a high pitched sound that frequently appeared in my left ear. I listened closely and identified the pitch, then matched it with my voice. After doing this several times the sound went away and this verified my belief in the principle.

Subtle Vibration Imprints

Homeopathic remedies are prepared from the mineral, plant, animal and human kingdoms. The healing product seems to be nothing, yet a subtle vibration imprint must be remaining because a properly selected homeopathic remedy performs miracles in both humans and animals. Sound is vibration that can be heard and has healing properties on another level of vibration waves.

It is well know that our universe is created through patterns of frequency. Science is now validating what the mystics of many traditions have known forever. Everything that exists in the physical, mental, emotional, sensation, and spiritual realms exists as a vibration. Healing intervention is possible by introducing variations of individualized frequency patterns.

Stored Energy is Vibration

Energy is the backbone of all matter and the movement of the energy stored in the minerals, plants, animals and mankind forms the basis for energy medicine. The stored healing power is already here and now is within your power to utilize.

Sound, Spirit & Humanity

Music and sound have been an integral part of the healing process through time and across all cultures. Sound is a major link between the world of spirit and humanity. The Australian aboriginal cultures believed that the Earth was sounded into existence through the didgeridoo. In Shamanic traditions incantations, drumming, and rattling are used to induce dreams and visions of creations. In the Old Testament is the story of David playing the harp to treat King Saul’s depression.

Research About Sound

Research has proven the benefit that sound can heal.

Royal Rife Frequencies

Abhram’s Multiple Wave Oscillator

Robert Monroe and audio binaural beats

Dr Hans Jenny and Dr Guy Manners with Cymatics

Vladimir Gavreau’s sonic weapons

Dr Alfred Tomatis and clear hearing

Learning and Application

Sound Therapy is an exciting field with the potential to completely shift our heath care paradigms. It offers a simple technique to get very detailed holographic information about the body, and is boundless in its potential ramifications.

For example, the Bulgarian Psychiatrist, Gorgi Lazanoff was able to show an increased capacity for learning, super learning, if you will, by playing Baroque music (1700′s Bach, Vivaldi, Telemon, Handle) and having his students breathe in rhythm with the beat. It all goes to show that sound and music can have a profound effect on our health, and well being, not only physically, but also mentally and emotionally as well.

Health with Sound Therapy

We know the power of sound and music and that the voice changes with emotional states or illness. Our health or mood can be strongly affected by music, toning, chanting, and singing.

Finding sound as a healing model helped me become my own doctor. I learned to control the pain, weight loss or gain, energy, relationships, mental instability and avert the medical crisis that leads to a medical doctor’s drugs and interventions. I believe that you can do the same.

The Tao De Jing was known as Lao Tzu’s “The Way”. According to tradition it was written around the 6th century BC by the sage Lao Tzu, or Old Master who was purported to be a record keeper in the Zhou Dynasty court.

On my bathroom floor in front of the toilet lays a pocket edition a translation of Stephen Mitchell’s Tao Te Jing. I picked it up so often the pages fell from the binding, and then I bought a new one. It is one of the most inspirational books in my possession and a constant reminder to relax and enjoy life.

There are 81 stanzas in the book followed by a brief analysis of each by Mitchell. I have no idea how many times I have reviewed this small book, but it must be hundreds of times. It is a true classic and never gets old. Each time I review a stanza more insight comes into view.

It is a short book, the original only 5000 words long. Rather that prose it speaks in stanzas that reveal the masters actions in situations that occur in life. It puts me in a place where I believe I can be a master, at least the master of my destiny. This verse is an example:

“I have just three things to teach:

simplicity, patience, compassion.

These are your greatest treasures.

Simple in actions and thoughts,

you return to your source of being.

Patient with both friends and enemies,

you accord with the way things are.

Compassionate toward yourself,

you reconcile all beings in the world.”

For me, reflecting in the Tao is an experience that I would recommend to anyone interested in following ancient Chinese wisdom. Stephen’s translation is beautiful, lucid, easily understood, and fits our times as well as those thousands of years ago.
